It was the natural question to follow what he'd said, but he wasn't quit expecting it all the same. Still, he never minded chatting about himself, though he knew he wasn't great with stories.
"I got lost." He responded casually, as though speaking of a jaunt he'd taken one day. "All winter. When I came back, she wasn't there." He didn't mind; he'd been sad at the time, of course, but did not take her absense personally at all. He hadn't meant to leave either, after all!
