Panicked and utterly out of breath, Eirlys Dagny Fearghal threw herself into the nearest thickly-wooded area with a desperate cry. Her lungs burned and her body quaked. A thin laceration marred the velveteen of her cheek, but her fur was so dark it bore little consequence. She was close to a pack territory — two of them, in fact! — but beyond that, she had no idea where she was. She knew only that she needed to get back to Ceallach, Reed, Droman, and Hemlock as soon as possible, to warn them about the roaring birds of prey that loomed overhead. Speaking of which…

Cocoa dusted ears swiveled and fluttered nervously; she flinched at every small sound as she peered out of the underbrush. Fortunately, the blood droplets she’d left behind in her mad dash were better than a breadcrumb trail. She began to retrace her terrified steps, mindful of the nearby claimed lands and giving them a wide berth. Her pleochroic eyes were on the ground as she progressed out of the wood in a heavy-legged shuffle, but she kept half her attention skyward.
