Outlander would have kept his grip tight in order to teach her a lesson but the stranger pulled back with an awful sound. It would have been hard to keep his hold tight enough without going forward with her or ripping the tender skin open altogether - which he wasn't sure he was fully committed to doing but it seemed she was. Not to mention there was suddenly a new challenger. His jaws parted with the full intent to release and move backward from the launched body.
He should have been smart but smart wasn't his forte. Outlander foolishly stood his ground and as such, made himself fairly open to attack.
