It was when the moon had settled low beyond the horizon that the dreams began, body trembling and shifting in the darkness. The sylph mumbled in her sleep, tail flicking uncomfortably and paws twitching every few heartbeats - flames, she saw them dance in front of her eyes, the flickering waves of heat shot sparks into the air. Ravenous, hungry streaks of red and burning orange, consuming all in their path - they did not cease their dance, continuing until terrified yowls pierced through the night and send chills down her spine. The creak and splinter of wood, the cries of pain, it spiralled into a cacophony of gut twisting noise that sent her body reeling in horror.
Something caught her leg and she tumbled, face pressed against the sweltering ground. Feeling a sharp pain shoot through her side, the gem rolled her head to the side in a slow attempt at regaining her senses; her vision was blurred, brain pounding against her skull as she shuffled and desperately tried to push herself back up onto her legs. The flames felt closer, the heat licking at her paws. From somewhere in the distance she caught sight of a figure, though they locked eyes for but a few seconds before the wolf was devoured by smoke and the hungry jaws of the fire.
Before she knew it she was running again, the ghastly grin of orange tearing through the remainder of the forest as the survivors made their last attempts to reach the safety of the rivers, the lakes, whatever they could find. Charred corpses littered the floor but she refused to glance at them else she might see a familiar face who'd been stripped forcefully from their life by the ravenous, raging army of flames. A surge of new panic arose from her chest as a burning tree groaned, tipping to the ground with a thunderous thump in front of the youth to block her path. The heat blasted her backward, but she found herself stuck as the fire grew to walls around her body, closing in fast as it consumed everything it touched - it grew harder to breathe, smoke filling her lungs, and as the heat became unbearable her vision darkened, hearing the last desperate screams echo in her head like circling crows awaiting their chance to feast on fallen prey.
Faeryn woke with a start, eyes wide and breathing uneven. Her chest rose and fell quickly, the last twinges of fear shooting through her body until she shook herself and glanced around at her surroundings. A dream... a small ribbon of relief wound around her heart, but her head slumped exhaustedly onto her paws. Slowly exhaling, the seawolf wrapped her tail around herself comfortably. A dream... that's all.

I see quiet nights,
poured over ice
poured over ice
