Osprey gasped unwittingly when Surra brushed past her, then whirled to watch as he continued racing toward the water. "Hey!" she yelled indignantly, pumping her legs to catch up to him. That wasn't how it was supposed to work!

Despite her best efforts, she didn't manage to overtake him, though they hit the water at nearly the same time. She impacted so hard with an incoming wave that it knocked the breath out of her momentarily. Her legs dropped out from under her as the water deepened and she gasped, then managed a whoop that was almost immediately muffled by a second wave crashing over her small black head.
