While Apple did not particularly like getting her feet wet, her venturing in the flooded lands, which were created by two rivers, turned out to be a lucky decision. The previous night temperatures had dropped below zero and, when the old lady walked along the mountain-side, the worst of the pools of water were covered by a layer of ice. Not dense enough for her to tread on safely, but good for her to carefully manoeuvre her way towards a distant forest. And there on an isolated island she had spotted a hare - by the looks of it - it had had an unexpected swim and was wet and cold to the skin. She was not a cruel creature and put it out of it's misery, and then reached the forest with a freshly caught hare in her jaws.
She walked among the trees, looking for a good spot and finally found such in a clearing. There she settled down and began to eat, realizing that she had company here, when the winds changed and brought coywolf's smell to her. She paused and looked up from her meal at the stranger in the distance.
