How’d he end up here...?

Kubo’s mind flashed back to the kind lady, then back to his safe zone, before returning to the present. So long had passed since he lost his way—the way in which his body had grown made that clear—but he still felt no closer to home than he had before. Was he destined to never return? Should he give up already? His options, as few as there were, rushed through his head before settling on the most heart-wrenching one: it was time to give up.

As the decision set in, he came to an immediate stop on the mountain side whilst a loud sob broke through. He would never return home, he would never see his family again—he was destined to be lost forever, wandering for an eternity with no sight of the end. So, there on the mountain he stayed, crying his heart out, wishing he’d never left.
