The Wall (´;︵;`)

Through his sobs he noticed the arrival of another creature far larger than himself. Sniffing—both to clear his nostrils and take in her scent—he realised that it wasn’t a malformed wolf. Actually, he had no idea what she was, aside from female. He tilted his head as he gazed in her direction, curious but worried—worried that this creature was not kind, that she might attack and hurt him. Kubo was not a fighter, he didn’t know how to fight, and he certainly did not know that he stood no chance against a cougar—but, well, how could he when he didn’t even know what a cougar was? So many things he’d never learned, never been taught, and had never experienced firsthand.

His mouth opened as if he might say something, then promptly snapped shut as he scurried backwards, heart pounding. Yet another mass appeared, though this one was male and most definitely a wolf. Being so young then, and even now, Kubo did not recognise the newcomer. All he recognised was the way he positioned himself and held his body, as well as the snarl that tore from his throat.

Were they going to fight? Why were they going to fight? Frozen in place, he stared with wide eyes at the both of them, equally curious, nervous, and downright terrified.

...up until he could stare no longer. Something came to life within his mind, an instinct—a voice—that pushed him to retreat; if he could just flee whilst they busied one another, he would be free from falling victim to friendly fire. Fueled by that which he knew not the origins of, Kubo took off like a bat out of hell, leaving the duo far behind in his rear view mirror.
