As Aengus plopped unceremoniously onto the floor, Breccan winced and glanced at Liffey, afraid that she would disapprove of what he was doing. He wasn’t really sure how fragile his little siblings were. She seemed fine with it, though, and he understood that Aengus’ little body was tougher than it looked.

During this brief transaction between Breccan and his mother, Aengus had begun to wriggle toward him. His short legs didn’t carry him very far or very fast, but he had covered a few inches of ground when Breccan looked back at him. Nice work, buddy! Breccan praised, then lowered his chin to his paws so he was almost nose to nose with his brother. He exhaled, blowing a warm puff of air in Aengus’ face.
