the older boy doesn't seem to understand him. atwood pauses, but does not relent in his desire to follow him, taking some steps towards the border. until, that is, a voice calls to him, reprimanding. instantly the open expression on his face drops into a rather cross pout. planting his feet firmly on the ground, the child says "he ghost," in the same way a toddler might say NO right before beginning to kick and scream. then, because he can, he takes another short step after mal - or attempts to, at the least.
