AW
Poised; vigilant.
Perched at the fringes of a meandering stream, the sea nymph did loiter - meticulously balanced, pelagic gaze locked with fastidious care onto a target below the surface. Frigid ripples undulated in their ribbons, trickling between crevices in pebbles and rocks, and the wind had stilled for a paradisiacal handful of minutes - the minutes in which her chance would be snatched.
One, she counted, ticking the seconds as a clock might.
Two, position adjusted, lithe figurine coiled like a spring.
Three--
Unravelled; a paw dived below the outward veneer of liquid, and as it drew back toward her chest, a miniscule captive was speared and then flung back, back away from the water and upon patches of snow-kissed grass behind. Bounding came Faeryn, prancing as a doe might toward her quarry with a conquering quirk of frosted maw, silvery song poured forth from blackened lips to bathe in her victory.
A success, and one she'd not take for granted, considering the winter's chill.

I see quiet nights,
poured over ice
poured over ice
