Shadewood Dreams seem so real

When he suggested that she get first pick of the meat, her surprise was apparent in the lift of her eyebrows and the widening of her eyes. Some things had been ingrained into her psyche from a young age, and she found them hard to overcome even with Rye who had never been anything but sweet and generous. She trusted him completely, but still found it hard sometimes to remember that things were different now than they had been at home. The need to turn down first pick and offer it to him was strong, but she didn't want to make him feel like she didn't appreciate his recognition of her part in the hunt. 

So instead, she smiled shyly and nodded. Then she turned and inspected the doe. After only a few moments, she pulled a big chunk of meat from the thigh and then settled down to start eating. 

Once they were done, she would tend to her wounds, help Rye find a safe place to store the food, and then hopefully they could settle down for the night; she knew they would sleep easier with full stomachs.
