it was arrogant to assume that he would be able to walk along the borders without an adult checking up on him …or perhaps even keeping an eye on him. hey sport, rasalas’ head swings in the direction of the voice — familiar to him as eljay — and he wags his tail in greeting. he’s never been called ‘sport’ before and isn’t sure what to do with it; hesitating, turning the name ‘rasalas’ over and over upon his tongue before letting it go. even if eljay forgot his name …did it matter? rasalas’ ear twitches but he keeps to his silence — partially because of wanting to avoid pain and partially because he isn’t quite sure how to respond.

fine. it’s more curt than rasalas means it to be; chosen to minimize the amount of speaking he’d have to do. he could’ve elaborated but rather enjoys giving one word answers.
