Blue Willow heard the call and closed her eyes tightly to keep the sheen of tears in her eyes from spilling over. She should have known her father would go when the moon was so full and large. The pain that cut into her heart was like a thousand tiny shards of glass or ice, piercing and slicing as they went. She had known he was dying, had known for weeks. She had known that he would go and she had thought she was prepared, and ready. However, she was not and it hurt so bad. She got to her feet and large body swerved through the trees towards the sound of the call, after she had lifted a muzzle in the sky and sent forth a mournful call.
