Around noon on the fifth day, Wayfarer began to fuss. She nursed only briefly, not as often or as vigorously as she had since birth. Her belly hurt to feed for much longer than a minute, and after this time she would cry out in attempt to communicate such discomfort.
@Lane was sure to worry for how her newborn, who'd been thriving and especially vocal over the past week, had so suddenly started to refuse milk. She slept a lot, which was not unusual, but by sundown she woke with a fever and did not even attempt to suckle.
