If anyone else had howled for him just then, Peregrine would've ignored it. He was veritably glued to Atticus's hip and did not want to leave his brother's side for anything. Even when he recognized his sister's voice, it didn't stop him from feeling annoyed and impatient about being summoned. What could possibly be so important that she would draw him away from their mending brother? Why didn't she call for Fox or Dante instead (Blue Willow was no more likely to leave Atticus's side)?

"I'll be back in a jiffy," Peregrine promised, then hastened toward the borders. He swept down to meet Osprey, who was standing beside a stranger.
