Jörmungandr had believed their trail ended miles back toward the grass field, but there stood a black-wing worshiper right before his eyes. It must have been a good omen. Svart was with them.

The man’s voice was rough like gravel. It thrummed deep in his throat. It was a warrior’s voice and it suited him well. Jörmungandr lifted his snout to regard her closely. She smelled of the wilderness and of other wolves, though those fragrances were faint. He wondered what her purpose was, but he did not ask it.

Dark shrouded with dark, the only thing that peered at her was an eye in the deepest shade of red.
