Her tongue still hurt, but it was healing. She could speak again, with some exceptions. Her s’s still weren’t the greatest, but she was managing.

Up until she woke up and found her inner legs on fucking fire. Kaelan jumped up, expecting to find an entire hill of fire ants crawling over her cooch, only to find nothing but a surprisingly strong scent, and a trickle of blood. Now, for all of her seeming simple-mindedness, Kaelan was far from stupid. This time of year was quite something indeed.

She laughed, a strong, harsh sound, at the thought. The season had drawn her number, maybe in response to the in heat stranger that had come by, and Kaelan couldn’t help but feel like this couldn’t have come at a better time. How better to entrench Tikal and serve her ajaw than by giving strong children to the land.

But where to go? The godless lands? Take her chances with the men in the canyons? The indecision halted her in her tracks with thought, and she stood upon the pathways, trying to think, but finding it hard.
