Samirseti was wary of him, but had no real cause for concern. In time, Arkane would earn his trust, his loyalty, his protection. He would make himself invaluable.

The Pharaoh stalked him with quiet intention, breath brushing the fur of his cheek in some unspoken promise. Belonging, duty. He was wrapped up in something bigger, and to step out of line now would mean a fate worse than death.

Arkane would not be so foolish.

“I will not disappoint you.” The words were rough, but held no hint of deception. He meant them as he said them, crimson eyes narrowed with intent. As Samirseti moved, the beast followed loyally, slinking after him with the grace and poise of a cat.

”My journey was largely uninteresting. I do not wish to bore you with the details, Majesty.”

Nonetheless he spoke of his travels, softly and with little detail. Truly there had been little of consequence, aside from a failed hunt or two. He had insisted on traveling alone, for it was his job to defend Vahanet’s Pharaoh, and thus his voice was gravelly from disuse. What sort of coward would he be if he accepted protection for himself?
