the sand clung to his fur, to the soft insides of his ears, to his belly where he’d been knocked so unceremoniously over.
back on his feet, all wobbly limbs and wide paws, biting and pawing and growling like a stormcloud pup.
he presses close to him. bumping his head to the warmth of the dark fur.
he didn’t know the word. but it made the pup happy to mimic his father.
