he huffed through his nose, the faintest sound of amusement — a rare thing, but kinusi always seemed to coax it from him.

his eye lingered on the herbs she'd gathered, the flick of her tail, the way her laughter lingered like smoke in the air. there was comfort in her presence, bright and grounded, and it made the quarry feel more like home.
