The higher reaches of the mountain were fun to explore, but Kindle was glad for the need to mark the borders in the foothills. It gave him an excuse to spend time on more even ground without losing face.

And, well, it did need to be done. And Kindle loved to do what needed to be done.

He moved a long the fresh, strong borders, enjoying the weak winter sunlight that filtered down through the trees. It dappled his coat in patches and sprinkles at first, but soon enough, he emerged from the sparse woods and found himself in the beautiful meadow that had captured his attention some weeks previously.

Wondering if the strange boy from that night had stuck around, Kindle lifted his head and howled, hoping for an answer.
