Moonspear Quiet and silent does a body good

Kindle had been following the trail of a bighorn sheep, intent on seeing where the creatures laired. The rocks, however, did not hold scents as well as he wished. The whole area smelled like the ungulates, but he could not find a solid trail. The Morningsider wandered, frustrated, his nose to the ground, and almost did not notice the shadow tucked back against the rocks.

But he lifted his head at the right moment and nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw her dark silhouette. The wind was off and he was far enough away that he did not smell her presence, and the one white-rimmed eye made her look, for a moment, like something ghoulish and unkind.

Then he blinked, and she was only a wolf again. One whose striking appearance grew more beautiful the longer he looked.

Kindle was beginning to feel quite strange about the arrangements. Kira, Kini, Treepie, and now this woman were all very pretty. He had the vague idea that he would have to marry one of them — that was what was done, wasn't it? — and he could not wrap his head around these women being the options.

"You scared me," he accused, in possession of no more intelligent thoughts to voice.
