And, aside from that, he just thought that Treepie's earnestness was awfully sweet. He grinned at her, wide and smarmy, surprised somehow to find such sentiments stowed away in the young woman.

"Tell me about him," he said, not quite a demand, but not quite a suggestion, either. "What's this perfect man gonna be like?"

He was ready to listen, and earnestly! But he could not help the desire to tease her while he did so. He made a show of settling in with all his attention, his gold eyes scorching with interest.
