"Thank you, Katmai, I'd love to stay," Kira said, a sense of relief washing over her body. It had been a while since she'd felt this level of acceptance, anywhere.

Kira listened as Katmai talked about how there used to be a lot more packs and villages. "That's so sad," she said, looking around her a bit, as if she could find the answer by looking at the wind.

Katmai's next question confused her. After her conversation with Kindle, she had expected the leader to prioritize more "useful" abilities, like hunting or scouting.

"I definitely can't dance, but my voice is rather good, if I do say so myself." Her tail twitched with her confidence. "And, I do enjoy telling stories."
