kaimele hadn't always been fond of the night, but something had shifted within him since his brush with death. the all-encompassing darkness that had greeted him then had been that of a warm finality, utterly peaceful. it was no wonder that the restless soul was drawn to it in his second life.
clouds covered the moon and stars this evening, so the ocean was no more than a formless void, without the threads of silver that fell from heaven to grace its roiling surface. even so, there was still something beautiful in that. captivating—
so captivating that he forgot to watch the path ahead and noticed the scent of another wolf far too late—and by the time it registered, he'd stumbled over the slumbering boy and staggered off-kilter, eventually tumbling through the grasses with a muffled 'oof.'

ah, fuck, kai muttered, sprawled out on his side. the night spun around him, and it took a few moments to orient himself once more (though, really, not as if he'd been much oriented before).
ah, sorry, mate, i've—not been myself lately.
