kanuux’s head snapped toward her the moment she inched closer.
his lips peeled back, teeth flashing white and wet with seal-fat— a silent snarl that needed no language. his shoulders rose, broad and cold, claiming the carcass with the brutal certainty of a hunter who had earned every bite.

the gulls scattered at the sound of his growl.
she had sank low, ears folded, a thin whine slipping out like mist. kanuux watched her for a long, unmoving breath— weighing her softness, her hunger, her harmlessness.
then, with a grunt more dismissal than kindness, he shifted his stance. turned from the carcass.
gave her the space.
an act of mercy in his mind.
his tail lifted once in warning— take what is left, take only what he allowed.
