Life was unpredictable, in the best and worst ways. Peregrine was right; it was possible to meticulously plan out an interaction, but there could always be an unexpected surprise. In this case, the result was negative but could have been worse -- Peregrine was lucky that his injury was not more severe.

Elwood bobbed his head thoughtfully in response to Somnia's musings. She was an introspective wolf, and he liked her outlook on life. As they moved slowly back towards the caldera, he threw a sideways glance at Peregrine, who had offered up a joke. "I don't know, what?" he replied, raising his brows as he waited for the punch line.
