He slept better when she was with him. Oh, sure — sometimes she made it exponentially harder to actually get to sleep. That was a given. But once he did, he always slept deep and near-dreamless, and woke with a sort of peace and clarity that he'd come to appreciate.

Except that, sometimes, it meant there was little drowsiness to save him from feeling the cold. He could not drift back into sleep when she woke him, yet he persisted in trying to return to that blessed embrace. Partially because it had been so nice! And partially out of impish pique. He squeezed his eyes shut and smothered a grin, only giving in with a laughing shout when she pulled on his ear.

"Hey!" he growled, snapping at the air where she'd been just a moment before. He stretched into absolute wakefulness before giving chase.

"You're gonna get it, woman," he called after her, abandoning a full-on chase in order to hunt her more stealthily. His ears twisted to follow her progress through the snowy woods.
