She didn’t say anything right away, slowly processing his words. He wanted to drop by Pala’s old den to fetch something they’d left behind. Nobody had used the space since her family’s departure, so Pie thought the odds were good that he might be able to retrieve the item. She wondered what it was, though she found Ludo’s mention of Moonglow more distracting.

I had no idea… she said rather uselessly, trailing off without properly completing her thought. Treepie blinked, then added, Of course you can visit the den. I’ll walk you there.

She started to turn, the sudden shift of Wyvern’s weight startling her; she’d forgotten she was perched there. The abrupt movement jarred the nighthawk into taking flight, a wing haphazardly slapping Pie upside the head. She supposed she deserved that, for her thoughtless action.

Glancing at Ludo again, she managed a wan smile and motioned for him to follow. Treepie then faced forward, taking an opportunity to blink the moisture from her eyes and otherwise collect her wits. Her guest didn’t need to know she was in the middle of a mental breakdown. And, honestly, she was glad he’d showed up to pull her from it, however temporarily.
