he sees the fire in dark spine before he feels it himself.
rage drives the younger male hard, teeth finding flesh again and again, each strike meant to break more than body. red dusk does not steal that fury from him. he reads it and moves to shape it.
when the doe surges forward, red dusk meets her head on.
his weight crashes into her shoulder and chest, full and unforgiving. muscle and bone slam together as he heaves atop her, driving her down into the churned earth. her legs falter. breath tears from her. the ground takes her.
red dusk holds.
his jaws do not seek the throat. they clamp and anchor, pummeling her balance away, pressing her flat and helpless. he pins her for dark spine, keeping clear of the killing place.
