He knew satisfaction when his jaws wrapped around her neck like a steel bear trap. Before Peregrine could administer any pressure, she stopped, dropped and rolled. This took him by surprise. He managed to maintain his grip (mostly), though it strained his neck badly. He would be stiff and sore for days to come.

He eventually went down with her, relaxing his muscles and letting her drag him. He hoped to crush her windpipe and severe her jugular in one fell swoop, though to his dismay, he found she had partially wrenched loose. Peregrine could not hope to severe anything now. To do that, he would have to release her and attack again.

Unwilling to release his grip, he instead bit down as hard as he could, hoping to at least do significant damage. He would cling to her like a bulldog, hoping to slowly but surely throttle the life from her.
