"I guess the only other types of wolves you'd really deal with on the borders are prospective joiners and visitors from other packs. Assuming they observe proper border protocol, you can just see what they want and answer their questions at your discretion. In the case of a joiner, feel free to vet them first. If you think they're worth our time, you can summon us, and if you're pretty sure they won't fit into the caldera, feel free to turn them away. This is your pack as well as mine and everyone else's, so I trust your judgment as to who might be a good fit and who wouldn't."

Peregrine's tongue darted out to wet his lips. He felt he had given Elwood a good introductory course in guardianship. There was a lot more to it, most of it rather dry, and it could wait until another day. For now, the Alpha male wanted to wrap up this leg of their mutual patrol, then either find or catch something to eat. He was starting to get hungry and still had no urge to be idle.

"I think I'm gonna go rustle up some grub. You're welcome to join me or continue patrolling. Up to you, Elwood." He paused long enough to let the other male weigh his options, then decide, before loping deeper into the caldera's interior.
