Shiv had to contain herself. A cackle threatened to escape her beak but she kept it shut, keenly watching as the leggy female spotted the bones and ran forward. Almost as if in agony, she cried out, yowling about how she had buried the bones. All according to plan! Within moments, the remains were underneath the snowy ground again and the wolf continued walking. Fascinated but still with an impish twinkle in her eye, she waited until her victim was further down the path, once again flying down to the ground to uncover the bones.

This time, the magpie went about spooking the wolf in a different way — one similar to how she had tricked the female in the Heartwood. Only, this time, she didn't aim to hit the wolf. Oh no, that would be much too invasive. Soundlessly, the bird followed the white-toed stranger, coming to rest upon a branch. There, she edged down it until she was almost upside down, clinging on with her talons. The seagulls' thin bone in her beak, she gently lined up her sights before releasing it, aiming to drop it right in front of the poor girl.
