Raccoons were not Peregrine's prey of choice. They were more of a challenge than they were worth. He could easily come away with a dozen scratches and, hell, one of those little buggers could bite off a toe if it was determined enough. At the same time, he was a master Gamekeeper and he wasn't about to shy away from a challenge. Perhaps eating the flesh of another predator would be more strengthening than the meat of a boring old herbivore and would give the fetuses in Fox's abdomen a little boost.
