the journey had been long, but evidence did not show upon muscled, practiced body. for her mission had no urgency and she was ever-patient in her chase for the ronin.
there, the lake emerged from the treeline, silver and still beneath a waning sky. the air here was colder. clean. and a suitable spot to make camp for the night.
the woman settles by the shore, kneeling before the water. she drinks.

— ridgeback moves with ease beneath the fading daylight. the sky is blanketed in an array of melding colors; lavender purple, sun-splashed orange. it captures his attention as he slows his trot to a breezy stride, a soft smile twitching at his lips.
stolen quickly away by the glittering of light upon the shining lake ahead. just past the treeline, he pushes through, large frame ambling with an eagerness to wash the grime from his pelt. days worth of travel, hunting, had layered him in dirt, blood from feasting.
huffing a breath, but steeling slightly when he sees the dark-furred lass who approaches as well. his head cutting violently to look at her, bright eyes taking in the sight with little guilt to show for his gawking.

her gaze doesn’t falter as she hears the approach, the steady, deliberate thrum of paws against earth. she rises to her full height, the light tracing the plush angles of her figure as she turns to face him.
the man's stare is blatant, unapologetic, and while her lips curve, there’s nothing soft about the motion.
"something on your mind, or just enjoying the view?" she purrs, locking onto him like a silent, coaxing pull.
she allows him a moment to drink in the sight of her, then steps closer to the water's edge.
"join me, stranger." she continues, "water's cold. but you'll need someone to scrub that back of yours."

— ridgeback’s brows lift, both surprised and entertained by her boldness. he’s still for a breath, golden eyes narrowing just slightly—not in suspicion, but amusement. his tail gives a small flick, amused huff leaving his chest as he pads closer.
he doesn’t hesitate as he steps to the edge, muscles rippling under soot-streaked fur, the red stripe down his back catching the last of the sun’s dying light.
and here i thought i was the flirt,he mutters with a crooked smirk, posture relaxed but not careless. she’s poised, dangerous in that quiet way. and damn if that didn’t stir something feral in him.

never met a woman who makes the first move.

her smile warms instantly, sweet as springlight—like they'd known each other far longer than a breath. she watches him through her lashes, head bowed slightly like a docile thing.
"oh, i’m just being polite," she says, voice all pleasant hum and honeyed charm, "you looked like you could use a little kindness after such a long journey."
she takes another step, close enough for her scent to curl in the air between them—fresh pine, crushed petals, and something darker beneath.
he’s all strength and stride, raw-boned power tempered by something a little too restrained. a creature meant for violence, trying to wear gentler skin. but some kindness makes men forget their edge, for warmth disarms quicker than a threat.
suyin doesn't shy from his approach—welcoming his nearness like heat in winter. once he's sat before her, she lifts a paw, slow and deliberate, and brushes against the line of his taut shoulder with a soft scrape. she begins to smooth away the grime streaked down his spine, claws gentle but firm, dragging water through his fur to reveal the red belt beneath.

— her scent. warm pine, trampled bloom. it wraps around him, draws tight, and ridgeback feels his throat hitch with the barest stir of tension.
a remarkable woman.
hell of a welcome,a gravelling, cocky smirk. hips swaying with a swagger as he approaches.
what do you offer the ones who actually ask for help?
her touch isn’t rushed. and he doesn’t move away—he leans in, just slightly. lets her groom the dirt and blood from the red stripe that earned him his name. she uncovers it like it’s something sacred. he watches the reflection of them in the water, still save for the ripples they make.
name’s ridgeback,he says finally, voice quiet now. eyes cutting to her sidelong.
y’got one, or do i just call you beautiful?
