spring and autumn were when the landscape burst with life. even in his norcal home he knew that much. he also knew that it was brief — pushed on either side by hot summers and cold winters. so he had to enjoy it while it lasted. he'd feared that the rains would drown out the last of the blooms, but the ground soaked up the rain or sent it towards the sea, feeding the earth despite soaking it not too long ago. so it was with a bit of relish that the mountain lion watched the last of the summer fireflies dance in the growing darkness, eyes gleaming with delight. sweet. he purred to himself.
