All Welcome
dated for... tomorrow? idk.

a light drizzle had fallen overnight, shrouding the castle-like pines in a light grey mist. weejay had beamed all the way home last night, and had even way too excitedly told @Eljay and @Elfie about her new friend she met just outside of the territory (of course, this would probably earn some disapproval -- but weejay's spirit could not be doused, and the excitement in which she babbled onwards was infectious.)

the next day, weejay was back where she had first seen aengus. she was part hopeful, part unsure - he might not even have had as much fun as she had... but... if he came back, maybe they could play with flowers again! and if he didn't.. well.. she would sit by the indian paintbrushes, and try to scheme a way to bring a small part of their colony home with her.

the young frostfur had hardly slept a wink that night. his mind had raced with the idea of going back to the bog to meet up with weejay and see what ideas she had in mind for their next adventure. aengus had been so thrilled with his chance meeting that he had not even made that much of an effort to bother his sister. he had gone home and curled himself up inside the den and slipped into a state of daydream. the young boy could hardly keep the smile from his face.

when the next day arrived, he had bounded from the den and into the glade. from there, aengus had traced his steps back to where he could recall slipping through the pack borders and into the wilds. from there, it was almost instinct that carried him back to where he had first met weejay. much to his delight, he could see the silvery coat of the girl not too far ahead.

aengus skipped forward and yapped out to her.

so, weejay was the reason sionnach slept peacefully that night? sweet. make mental note here to not have your own characters hate each other. weejay, on the other hand, was like aengus and had only slept intermittently -- she was too damn excited.

plucking absently at an indian paintbrush (and noticing there were little aphids scuttling across the vivid red petals) weejay looked up in surprise, her features transforming to captivating joy as she saw (and heard) aengus. "aengus!" weejay shot to her feet, wriggling in excitement.

"cypress!" wait. that's not what she meant to say. steeling herself and fixing up her sloppy composure, weejay tried again. "i mean -- i think i know where there might be a cypress. follow me!" she did not wait for affirmation he was following before she sped off.

aengus watched as her features perked and she seemed to spring to life. her limbs carrying her much faster than he could hope to move. the frostfur child plodded toward her with an easy sway to his large frame. he had wanted to see how she was doing, what she had been up to in their short time away from each other, and what she had plans for, but weejay was far too quick for him. she called out his middle name, then seemed to correct herself to say that she might know where one was.

weejay did not wait to see if he could catch up with her. the little child of lard was thick muscle was trudging forward as quickly as his stocky limbs would allow for him to go. he did not want to fall behind, so he opened his mouth and picked up his pace. it took seconds for him to start panting against the heat that was cast down from between the trees. that, and the pace that he had set for himself was enough to send the large child into cardiac arrest.

the only thing keeping him going was the streak of silver that he saw ahead of him.

weejay didn't realize her energetic bustle was enough to tip aengus' heart into tachycardia arrythmia, but as she looked back and saw his fat butt waddling and his little legs laboring,  weejay felt compelled to slow down. so she did, but not without some puffing and huffing, because she was so excited to show him a place she had thought about all night.

ok, she wouldn't admit she had thought of him all last night, but she had, and wracked her brain for a place where a cypress might be. it was not a short trek -- it would probably take them an hour to get to the place where the dark cypresses were huddled.. so weejay, slowing her gait, gave aengus a winning smile. "it's a bit away. but.. i think there's cypress there. or, i'm pretty sure.." she trailed off, noticing just now maybe aengus had something to say besides "can we stop at maccas on the way?"

god his blood felt like it was molasses trying to get through his veins. his heart was beating so quickly he thought that it was going to grant him the power to fly just by its sheer force alone. more than anything, the large child did not want to let down weejay but falling to far behind. it was probably the reason that sionnach wouldn’t go exploring with him – she didn’t really like to stop and wait for anyone or anything. she was a get up and go kinda girl, and aengus was more of a get down and stay type. still, he liked to adventure, and he was not about to be held back by his puppy fat and youthful muscle trying to create a new element.

thankfully, weejay slowed down and allowed him a moment to catch up. she explained that the cypress was a ways away, and he heaved a breath. somehow, the large child still remained smiling. “are we… gonna run the… whole way?” he panted at her, tail wavering behind him almost halfheartedly. it took a lot of energy to keep that much mass up and perky. he couldn’t be wasting his fuel on wiggling around.

GRATZ ON 100!

weejay spared a slim smile as she looked at aengus, who clearly looked like he was about to fall over. he looked like an overworked cart-horse, and if wolves could sweat, would probably be perspiring so bad he'd make the swamp smell dandy. slowing her pace even further, weejay deigned to walk.. but it was hard, because she was pretty damn anxious to show him the spot where she was 99.99% sure cypress trees were.

"we can walk," weejay answered, even though her tone sounded just the smallest bit disappointed. for a few steps they walked in silence; weejay was too awkward to offer much conversation, even though she wanted to talk non-stop with her new friend. she just hadn't conquered her nerves yet - she didn't want him to think she talked too much, or that she was boring..

weejay faded a bit before agreeing to move at a walking pace. aengus would have felt bad for having to dampen her spirits, if it weren’t for the fact that he felt like it was a life or death situation. if he had been forced to run the entire way, he surely would have fallen short of her expectations. at least if they were walking, he could strike up some conversation. they’d shared quite a bit with each other the day before, but he thirsted for more.

“you’ve been this far out of your pack before?” aengus asked her, a bit awestruck that she would have roamed so far on her own. perhaps she was a fair bit older than he had thought. she seemed like she was roughly around his age, give or take a month or so. all he could think about was how angry his father would have been if he’d found out how far his son had meandered.

Oh - Daddy Eljay was probably definitely angry at Weejay too. She wasn't one to wander very far, but Aengus had prompted her to try new things. She definitely wanted to find the young bull a cypress tree so he could see what his middle name namesake was from. Weejay hoped at the very least it would not be underwhelming; she happened to think cypress to be a rather intriguing plant, but it was not bright or exciting like her crinkly flowers had been.

"No, but I like to look around when I can." Weejay answered honestly, not skipping a beat. She wasn't fearless by any means, but something about having Aengus nearby made her feel compelled to push her comfort zone. Maybe it was to impress him. "Do you adventure a lot?"

girl was casual as fuck. there was something to be admired in the way that she took his questions and responded without making him feel like he was being stupid. sionnach could learn a thing or two about how to be tolerable. weejay was a god damn delight. the more time that he spent with her, the less he wanted to go back home. sure, he might have been the best thing since sliced bread, but he was starting to think that weejay was more like indoor plumbing. sliced bread and indoor plumbing; the two best things, right?

weejay’s statement made it seem like she just kinda went with the flow. the chill in her was something that aengus had really dug. when she asked if he went on many adventures, the pudgy pup flagged his tail and nodded his head several times. “all the time! i dunno if my mom and dad like it, but i get bored if i stay home all day,” the young bull replied. “plus, i got to meet you by going on an adventure so…” a devilish smile accompanied this statement.

Next to Sionnach, Weejay was the goddamned Mother Theresa. Anything next to Sionnach could be ascended into sainthood realm: maybe it was genetics. Maybe it was just Sionnach.

But Weejay didn't know anything about Sionnach (except she was Aengus' brother, so by proxy she assumed Sionnach to be very nice), so there was no clap-back there. She just kept on being Weejay, smiling all the while as she listened to Aengus in rapt attention. She was jealous he was able to go adventure - she had to be sneaky about it, and she didn't like tricking her daddy like that. But at the same time... if he just loosened the reins a little, she wouldn't have to slip out like a derelict any time she needed fresh air.

"My dad doesn't like it much." Weejay rejoined, her voice quiet. She was worried he might catch her at any moment, and even guiltily looked around before shrugging. "But yeah! We met on an adventure, so they have to be good." That made total sense, right???

Aengus seemed to understand Weejay's minor riot-streak; they explored and played for a while, but it came time when the sun began to set that Weejay knew it was time to head back. Exchanging a quiet farewell with her friend, Weejay said she would come see him soon -- she skipped home with her heart happy, and a hopeful expression that could not be doused from her face.
