A woman, yet not.
A man, yet not.
A warrior, yes. Shield and guardian to those who have earned such a prize.
Since the day Sabah realized her family were no more, regardless of whether they breathed or croaked in their graves, she had found a new path to walk.
Holcan to Kuhul Ajaw, now she was called. Nothing had ever given her pride such as this; to hold this title and serve the one man who looked past her appearance and saw her for who she was and what she was capable of.
For a time they had traveled, but not as one. They had come to this new place on their own, soon to reconvene. The holcan were meant to walk ahead. And so Sabah did this.
But they would come together again sooner than expected.
Ajaw.She saw him ahead, paws grazing the beach.
Sabah greets Kuhul Ajaw.One of few words, speaking only what was necessary so no breath designed for battle would go to waste.
There was eagerness in this woman's eyes. Relief as well. For now that they were reunited, no longer should she worry.

to holcan, the great kukulkaan turns.
it is a relief to see her, impressive in stature as any marble rendering of great warrior woman before her.
ajaw places the small coconut at their paws, focusing the full force of their attention upon sabah.
they trust the holcan with their life and thus to venture ahead of them in reconnaissance. each as capable as the last, moreso than the ones that came before them.
this one greets you, holcan.ajaw returns the greeting, reaching nearer to press their forehead against her's for a brief moment. a gesture of respect, of trust.
tell this one what you have seen.it was the same question they would ask of all of their holcan when the guard became one again.

It was asked of her what she had found. But she had found many things.
Wolves of many.She first answered. Some had been clustered together, while others floated alone.
Lakes vast; rivers wide.There was plenty of water to be spared. They would not be left thirsty.
Herds graze close to grass.For it was that season, was it not? Elk, rabbit, fox... them and more would spring about as the new season arrived in full bloom.

ajaw shifts towards the sea, feeling the salty seabrine as it peppers their face.
many wolves. vast lakes. herds.
food and water were invaluable and critical to survival, of course; but it is the congestion of wolves that ajaw focuses upon.
a double edged jul.
good for k'in sihaj, for if enough wolves could be persuaded to trade and partake in the three day market it could benefit those participating. tikal, at its head.
but bad for an ajaw who was fiercely possessive over both claim and resources.

Regarding his next query, there were only two directions she could think of as the best places to go.

they take their time to consider the suggestions spoken by their holcan.
but surely there were territories beyond!
a cast of frostbound gaze; the tip of a mountain (sawtooth spire) that looks like the tip of a serpent's tooth catches ajaw's attention.
