The Delta carried a small token from the Hollow that butted up against the Spire wolves' mountain range. The foxes that Iqniq had been trailing had met their demise. One, perhaps, to the fire-wrapped alpha's jaws, though this one, in particular, had been broken by the spider's fangs. The tail had a fluffy appearance, despite carnage at one end. A token. A gift.

The sun was dismal this brisk morning, typical autumn weather burrowing cold fingers betwixt long guard hairs. With food came the growth of new tissue and undercoat, the abysmal chill not nearly as severe as it had been upon arrival to the Sawtooth borders. A small wuff called through clenched cutlery, echoing into the little opening of rocks, stream, and sparse trees. The earth was warm in these confines, despite the winds, and the Delta paused to see what personality would emerge from the heated communal den sites.

He gnawed upon a stray stick, sharp teeth whittling away the middle until it was held together by a single splinter. When it finally snapped in two, Sitamat stared down at his broken plaything in first surprise, and then dismay. It had been his entertainment for the past hour or so...and now he had none. Tonravik and Iqniq both were nowhere to be found. Same could be said for his brothers, though they may be in the den. If they were, Sitamat strangely didn't fancy joining them, having pent up energy that threatened to bubble over.

So when a soft chuff announced a presence nearby, the plump boy was quick to respond. He scrambled to his feet, forgetting about his toy now in favour of greeting whoever had stumbled into the den site.

His ears pricked as he found the source of the sound — the dark, rangy man he had met some time before. Aasivak. The boy wasn't sure of the newcomer, he said strange things. Nonetheless, he provided a distraction, one the youngest cub was desperate for. He waddled forward, staring curiously at the shock of red fur that hung from the spider's mouth. "Atatak?" he chirped softly, worried for a moment that the tail the man held was his father's.

The rotund little soot-ball from the burying ritual emerged from the undergrowth obviously excited and buzzing with electricity. The spider took a moment to observe the awkward little tufts of fur that jut out in weird angles from his nape and head. Sooner or later that puffy coat would drop into adult plumage and excess weight would be transferred to lean muscle. One hoped, anyway. Maybe the little butterball was doomed to his figure.

The question was met with a fiery stare, peering down upon the creature with consideration. This foreign word the spider actually knew as time had been spent with their beta learning the tongue of the Tartok. "Kayuktuk," he explained, using their word for the fox that seemed to run rampant in the thickly wooded vegetation of the Hollow. There was curiosity if the little wolf understood. "I found him nearer to the Spire than was comfortable. Want it?" he questioned with a little shake of the fluffy object as enticement.

He held air within his cheeks as he stared, awaiting what Aasivak would say, and let it out with a sigh of relief as he clarified. So it belonged to a fox. Another creature he had heard of yet was yet to see. His eyes trailed to the appendage the inky man held, wondering why he had a tail of all things. Were they the tastiest part? Did he intend to bury it too like he had the skulls?

The man unknowingly answered him with a short explanation of how he came upon the tail, before waving it before the pup who immediately perked up even more. Well now he had to have it. "Yee!" he cried, bounding forward and using the momentum to leap upwards, jaws wide and aiming to latch onto the fluffy thing Aasivak teased him with.

NOOOO. My mouse just deleted my whole response. Mothertruckerrrr

The fluffy object elicited a predatory response, the sooty little beast leaping midair to snatch the quarry down. Inky jaws did not desire to relinquish their hold, clenched firmly despite the sudden drag of weight against prize. Only when needle teeth appeared fully latched did fangs part to drop the requested token, a slouch of shoulders play bowing in feigned interest. A paw snaked out to touch the fire-furred tail, testing the possession of the cub by dragging it away mere inches from where it rest betwixt baby teeth.

Most things in life weren't free. "Sometimes they run. That's how you know you've won," he explained as though previous actions mimicked a retreating foe. "Always have to be one step ahead." Without much warning, one inky paw plucked forward to cuff the tiny wolf atop the head. Enemies could be anywhere.
