The first traces of sunset touched the cornflower skies, splattering the once-blank pallet overhead with accents of peach. Something was calming about the ambiance that the heavens were giving and the eldest child of Amekaze and Charon was succumbing to the feeling happily. Much like those before her, Vela had taken a liking to observe the world overhead. Whenever something caught her attention from overhead, the pale Pi was quick to drop everything to take a gander of what was going on.
Poised much like a sphinx in the foyer of the family den, Vela looked upwards. Only time would tell just how long the child's attention would be focused on the sky, but, judging by how comfortable she looked on the ground it appeared that it would be quite some time before she stirred.

This song was playing as I wrote this post. :D
Although the sun had only truly begun to set, already the moon hung low against the far horizon. Galaxy peered at it ponderously for a long beat, then turned to spy Vela sprawled in the den's mouth. The white puppy bounded over to her litter mate, her tail wagging enthusiastically. "Veya!" she cried spiritedly, making to wrap her forelegs about the other girl's shoulders and glomming onto one of her little ears. "Pyay wif!"

Excuse Vela being a butt. :P
The thundering of plumb limbs drew Vela's attention from the dying sky and towards her approaching sibling. She was quickly finding that Galaxy had a tendency to disturb her when she was most absorbed in her observation and, to be frank, she wasn't a fan of it. Feeling irritation spark within the depth of her breast, whilst feeling the jabbing paws as her sister mounted, Vela huffed. "Gax!" Vela exclaimed, squirming under the weight that her sibling bore as she tried to rid herself of the needle-like teeth that tugged at her ears. "Wachin!" This was a desperate attempt to explain to Galaxy of what she had been trying to accomplish before being interrupted.

Vela's protest sounded genuine rather than playful, so Galaxy slid off her after one last nibble and cocked her head. "Watchin' what?" she asked, looking side to side so rapidly that her little ears flopped a bit. She didn't see anything of particular interest. Her eyes then returned to her sister's face and her expression scrunched. She reached out and halfheartedly batted Vela's shoulder in the hopes that she would change her mind and stop being so boring.

With the question at hand, Vela found her gaze rising skywards once more as she fell into a bout of silent contemplation. Despite her interest in the heavens above, the child did not have a word in her limited vocabulary for what exactly she was looking at. Troubled by this, Vela returned her gaze to meet his sister's, her face mirroring the manner in which Galaxy scrunched her face. With this all-consuming topic rattling her brain, the girl was barely phased by the Pi's attempt to get her riled up and instead sought to work out what she wanted to express.
Finally, after much thought, the freckled girl suddenly thrust her muzzle heaven-ward and let out a strained, "oop!", in a manner that was as accurate as she could manage at the given time.

"Huh?" was Galaxy's only response to Vela's monumental effort to describe what she was watching. She blinked owlishly, then shook her head impatiently. "Das bowin'," she declared emphatically, just barely resisting the urge to tackle the other girl and make Vela play with her. Instead, she reverted to pleading, "Pyay wif me, pyeas? Pyeas, Veya? Pyeeeas?!" She complemented her whining with an enticing butt wiggle.
Vela's brows lifted to Galaxy's inaccurate statement as disbelief filled her. She couldn't comprehend how the stars could be dull when there was so much going on up there. Having much to say, and a limited vocabulary to express her thoughts, the Omicron did her best to defend her favorite activity: "Dey nawt!" But as quickly as her words had left her mouth, Galaxy had begun to grovel in favor of playing. Staying firm to her cause, and shooting her full-figured sibling a hard look, Vela made voiced what she wanted to do.
"No, Gax! Wanna oop!"
"No, Gax! Wanna oop!"
Apparently nothing was going to work. Galaxy's wiggling slowly ceased and she flopped to the ground with a theatrical sigh of defeat. "Ugg," she voiced her (mostly playful, tbh) frustration as she dramatically rolled onto her back and made to fold her forelegs across her chest. But then she was arrested by the sight of the evening sky sprawling above them, so vast and dark, the moon bright and stars beginning to peek down at them.
"Waaaooowe," Galaxy opined. She had been wrong. This wasn't boring at all. "Pwetty, Veya!" she chirped, eyes rolling toward her sibling, who was of course upside down now. She grinned.

Though Vela's rejection had been met with complaint, such feelings shifted as Galaxy took time to observe the extravaganza overhead. Smiling, Vela turned to her sister with a look that read I told you so!
"Yee, prilly oop!" she encouraged with a wag of her tail. There was not much else for her to say as she had no idea just what it all meant. Turning her attention skywards again, Vela set her eyes to the constellations and observed, pleased that she had company to view the stars with.

*sneaks in a post between tasks*
She had seen the night sky before, plenty of times, as Scion. Yet she must not have bothered really looking. As she did so now, Galaxy felt such a sense of wonder. The breadth and depth of space was mind-boggling. If she tried to count the stars, was there even a number that went so high? And had the moon always been so huge and radiant? Had it always had a face?
Even as Galaxy's eyes roved from one darkling horizon to the other, she noticed what looked like a very wispy cloud scudding across the starscape (I just made up that word). It didn't obscure the stars so much as complement them. It seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see, a pale smoke trail smearing across the heavens.
"Wha'dat?" she asked, pointing a tiny paw upward and then rolling her eyes toward Vela again.

Drawn to this abnormality in the sky, Vela wrecked her brain as she attempted to make sense of it. Even though the sight was strikingly beautiful, the Omicron felt as though it didn't fit in. Perplexed, she turned to her sibling with a pout. She didn't like having an answer. "I unno..." She trailed, her mind running despite her putting forth an answer. "What tink?"
With this question asked, the sisters debated well into the night what the oddity was. Though they had been called back to the den shortly after their conversation began, the discussion continued from the depth of the whelping cave. When the two decided on what it was, they curled up together and fell asleep for the night.
