Gentle steps took her further and further from home. She was too young probably to be out and about, and yet there was a thirst to her for knowledge. It was with surprise she heard the sound of the rattler and she quickly backstepped and searched the dunes for it. She knew what they were and to stay away from them.
Different colored eyes sought and she saw it there, coiled and ready to spring, but he didn't attack yet. Merely stared at her in reproach. His tail her warning. She stepped back further. And he slowly began to sink back down.

Loathe as he was to leave Mama for any longer than an hour at a time, Harta could not help but trail one of the other coyote children as she wandered further and further from their tribe-lands. He knew as well as her that they were leaving the safety of their home, but curiosity had gotten the better of them both.
As stealthy and silent as a shadow, the boy followed Andanari at length, staying out of her line of sight. He had taken to this way of observing the other members of their tribe, following in Kusuma's footsteps – sometimes quite literally.
It was the tell-tale rattle of a snake-tail that had Harta finally close the distance between himself and the other Sunling, stopping a few paw-steps away as Andanari back-peddled from the coiled snake and its noisy display.
He cocked his head, ears flopping over, to peer past the girl and study the creature. Mama had told him of these types of snakes; but he had never seen one up close!

Andi turned her head as quickly as she could when she heard the footsteps of another. She was fearful now that she may have gotten someone hurt, by traveling to close to the snake.
Her tail shifted and she watched the snake closely. For any reason it would attack.
This one's mama says to respect them and they will respect us. Not too close.
