Backdating for the 15th

As planned, Beau had gone searching for @Disa before the hunt's end. He was curious to see what she was up to, and more than that, to prod into what was happening in Verapaz. He hadn't seen Soto, it gave reason to be curious.

Trotting across the glen with the leg of an elk held tightly in his jaw, his head moved side to side in hopes of spotting her. It was an easy gift to bring along, but damn it definitely wasn't light.

There were familiar faces here, but Disa had kept to herself until the creature named Beau made an appearance - carrying lunch.

Disa licked her lips, extracted herself from the spot where a few Verapaz wolves snoozed after the day's hunt, and followed after him - silent.

She let him trot with the leg in his mouth for another, amused by the struggle. Eventually, when he stopped to look around, she skittered close and let loose a loud bark.

He hadn't quite expected the bark, his fur raising until he could turn his head and spot her.

Dropping the leg, he seemed to cheer up fast. Disa! He grinned, inviting her to join him. I'd been lookin' for you. How have things been?

This hunt was a rare opportunity for wolves to meet up somewhat peacefully, and he wasn't planning on wasting it - even if that only meant meeting up with a friend.

Beau looked delighted to see her, and Disa had a mind to be suspicious. She was not really anyone's first choice for company.

"Beau. I am uninjured," she said, choosing the most important of statuses to relay. Then, looking to the leg,  "To share?"

He nodded, sitting himself down. I hope you aren't tired of elk yet.

What's life like in Verapaz these days? Straight to the point. He didn't see any reason to hide that he was being nosey. Soto still pissin' you off?

There were plenty of new faces in the desert crew as far as he could tell. Whether he was here or not, clearly the segundo was doing alright.

Disa wasted no time ripping into the meaty flesh of the thigh, pinning it with her paw whilst ripping at the skin.

"Soto is a captive. Kemal is..." What was it? ".. alpha." The söecifics of how it had happened were unclear.

She turned her eyes on Beau, teeth still at work. "Are you still alone on the plains?"

It wasn't what he expected to hear, but he couldn't deny that he was pleased. Soto had it coming.

I am. He felt no shame in it. The time alone was refreshing, to say the least. It's a good time. Pack wolves have been coming by to hunt, they ain't too bad for company. They were keeping him fed well, anyways.

Been thinkin' I should shack up somewhere for the winter but, he trailed off, shrugging.

Disa raised her head to look at him, chewing on a sinewy strip of meat. It wasn't so much compassion as the instinctive desire to pair pack and wolf together that prompted her to say, "You can stay with us." Soto was gone (really gone, escaped, but Disa did not know that yet), and Beau was... not hideous? OK? Disa wasn't entirely sure what she felt about him, but it was neither disgust nor disdain.

Beau hadn't imagined he could even give the suggesteion the time of day, but he was silent for about fifteen seconds. Maybe, if I'm hungry enough. In the end, he couldn't make the decision in the moment. Independence has been good for the soul. Maybe not for much more than that, but it was hard to complain.

Disa just shook her head. "That's dumb," she said. "You're a wolf, and it is winter." His soul would be very independent once it vacated his stiff, starved corpse.
