She had been neglecting her pups, more than children their age should be. She was involving herself too much in her pack business, and not enough in her children's lives. But she knew now, that their eyes were beginning to open, and at the same time, their milk teeth too. She would start to give them meat from her stomach soon, in a few days, but for now, she just wanted time with them.

The priestess stepped into the den, licking her pups back in a way of greeting, curling around the three warm bodies. She lapped at their faces, gazing at the pudgy things and trying to see if they had opened eyes.

Potema had been sleeping peacefully when her mother entered, licking at their faces indiscriminately. The ash and soot sprinkled girl squeaked in annoyance, the kisses prompting her to open her eyes and gaze at her mother defiantly. That's when she realized how huge she was.

She had been aware of how large her mother was from touch alone, but with sight, she saw how much of the small cramped space her mother really took up. The largeness of her mother caused her to step back in away and blink with confusion. Would she ever be that big one day?
