When it had been time for Lusa's birthing, Grim had been shunned from the den. He had paced outside rigid with worry. What if she had birthing complications? What if their pups came out with deformities? Grim would stop every so often to listen when Lusa cried in pain. He had growled, wishing she would have allowed him to be by her side to help her through it. But he wasn't going to argue with his love. If this is what she needed then he would give her space.
Time seemed to drag as the hours went by. Grim tore at a branch to let out frustrations, but it didn't help much. When he was finally deciding to just enter the den, that was when Lusa called him in. He quickly trotted in to see his beloved pups. They were all nestled together in a corner. Pride assaulted him in fullest. These were his pups.
His body froze, an uncontrollable small growl produced from his jaws before he cut it off. One of his pups was white. How could that be? Lusa was black, he was brown. As far as he knew none of his family line had white wolves. His gaze shifted to Lusa. Did she have arctic wolves in her family? Amber eyes turned back on the pups. That had to be the case. He was confused; unsure of how to respond to such a disgrace. But he couldn't do anything about it. Lusa didn't share the same feelings as he did toward white wolves. Grim immediately cut himself off from the pup, deciding that he would never acknowledge it as his.
His head lowered to inspect his other two pups. One was a dark brown and the other a creamy color with a brown muzzle. These two he would accept. Grim sniffed them, deciphering the scent as male. In the back of his mind he understood the white one was female. He was relieved that the two acceptable pups were of a proud color and had no deformities. Though one he liked more so than the other. He preferred his pups dark. It surprised him that they had no black wolves. He figured at least one of them would turn out to be like Lusa, but it did not disappoint him. What disappointed him was they white abomination. "These two I will raise to be the strongest, most protective males in the pack." Grim did not even want to mention the other. Tipping his nose forward he nuzzled his two heirs. "They will be great fighters and great defenders. They will be loyal to Blackfeather." His gaze turned to Lusa. "Would you mind if I named the dark one after my uncle? I would call him Baldur."
