"Oh, get lost," Saena told absolutely nobody as she passed through a clearing in the forest. Well, it wasn't nobody, but she was the only one who could see it: a polar bear, half-grown, lumbered after her. It was a ghost. Most frequently Saena saw this ghost, though sometimes at night she caught glimpses of others, though never had a wolf shown itself to her. They were distinct from real entities, almost foggy in a way. She rarely paid them any attention, having received no particular help or harm from any of them. The only one she communicated with (and only very privately) was the bear, because it was the one she saw the most of. Still, she had no idea what its appearances meant. They seemed completely random.

As she whirled around to tell the bear to leave once more, it flinched back and then faded away into the trees. Frowning, the alpha female took a hesitant step forward, only for a howl to cut across the rise and pick her out specifically. Frowning even deeper as she tried to puzzle out what Wynter might need her for, the pale female picked her way across the rise, leaving the site of the ghost bear's disappearance behind. Locating the former siren wasn't hard, but Saena did delay meeting her when she drew close, primarily because nerves were now fluttering in her belly. Did Wynter know about her and Reek? Did she know it was Saena who had ruined her marriage? No, she ruined her marriage, Saena reasoned when her nerves threatened to overwhelm her; I only took it for myself.

Yeah, that was a lot better when faced with the ex-wife of the man you've been screwing in secret.

"Hey Wynter," she said breathlessly as she arrived, hoping the other female would believe she'd been running (the real reason she was breathless was from fear that she'd been found out). "What's up?"
