Burke said it in a way that it didn't sound too judgmental. Potema was a teenager after all, that was the age when they were really starting to be aware of their appearance. 

He knew that this was quite the change for the three youngsters. They noticed with Lusa how much young pups would take all their parents attention away. "Awww, don't be jealous," he teased and looked at her with some amusement. "After all, in a few months they will have an incredible big sister to look up to. And you will be surprised how much young minds can learn you new things," he pointed out. He had the same with the three spiderlings. They gave him another way of thinking.
