Balthazar could be quite chatty. After all, he was very proud of his "manly" voice and could almost never pass up the chance to say something snide or derogatory. He didn't always feel the need to talk to everyone, but insult them he would at any time of the day. It's where most of his verbosity came from anyway.

And though originally he saw this she-wolf as dim-witted and had hence earned those scars unfavorably (for being an idiot rather than a warrioress), her response, as curt as it was -- as seemed most of her clipped speech -- pleased him inwardly to an unknown degree. It must've been low enough so that his face remained largely unchanged; though his frown lines eased and his back fell from the tense arch it had begun to form; and he didn't let her know her answer had been good.

Instead he snorted and turned his muzzle slightly, sour eyes cutting to some indiscriminate point to her left, retracting to her only when she asked if he hunted. He gaped at her, his expression momentarily stuck between fury and awe (at her audacity, of course). He'd spent the entire night trying to bring down some game for himself, was now immensely tired, and here was this strange and attractive she-wolf, rudely rousing him from his nap and then asking him about hunting...

Zar breathed in steadily, and squared his shoulders after getting over his anger. He supposed he could go for a while longer—especially if it got him something to eat. And since she'd asked, she was obviously capable and willing herself. "I'm starving," he grunted in ascension, nodding his head stiffly towards her in indication for her to lead the way. Because he would show her he could hunt.
