Reek's suggestion that they take some time away from their pack invigorated Saena. Of late, the leading female had become a right bitch, hiding away from the many new faces of the pack and lashing out at inopportune times. Though she was loathe to leave the pack in Ukko's paws, for the man had shown no inclination to step into the role Reek had given him and was proving to be a recluse to boot, she needed the time away and gladly agreed.

She had protested walking with her eyes closed, but eventually acquiesced, if only due to Reek's excitement. Fearing that he would spring another in a series of reckless and sometimes stupid decisions on her, she followed him anxiously, only to gasp when he finally told her to open her eyes.

Redtail Rise was glorious, entombed in glistering ice and resplendent in spite of its sorry state. She missed it dearly, but the maplewood was also home, and so it was with fondness and no sorrow that she spent the day gallivanting about it with Reek as much as her sore rib would allow. The waterfall cavern they had spent their first month together in was a palace of ice, and returning to it to sleep felt very much like coming home.

For all the sentiment and all the nostalgia, however, Saena couldn't shake a growing feeling of anxiety. Sometime in the middle of the night she awoke and pushed away from Reek, whose body was suddenly too hot for the feverish warmth she was experiencing. She tried to brush it away but the rest of her sleep was fitful, restless, and she squirmed uncomfortably as the fever burn localized to her stomach.

It wasn't until Reek nosed her awake, somehow frantic, that she really felt it: a burning need. Not entirely understanding what had and was happening to her, Saena blinked sleep from her eyes, stood on trembling legs, and felt herself consumed in a heady fire the moment she met Reek's eye. It was the kind of fire that was undeniable, an unstoppable inferno of hormones raging in the pit of her belly. She couldn't have ignored nature's calling if she tried.
