Coming from the snowmelt of the glacier, the water of the Qeya River was clear and exceptionally cold and fresh. Though there was a definite chill in the air every time the wind rose, it was not altogether unpleasant, and Ravel savoured its freshness. The dark hairs along the ruff of her neck were toyed with as she crouched, cougar-like, to drink from the water, sea-foam eyes glinting in her rippled reflection. Her gaze was cast out across the water that looked almost as cerulean as the sky, toward the massive body of ice and snow wedged between the peaks. She wondered if it would shrink much over the summer, but figured by its sheer size and altitude, that it would be safe from much of the summer's warmth, at least until the cold season came around again to rebuild it.
She was at the base of the river, where it met the lake created by the glacier's melt, and heard a disturbance in the water not too far from where she'd been drinking. She paused, ears flicking forward as she slowly turned her head, watching to see if the sound would happen again. Patience was a gift of hers, and she would eventually be rewarded with the sight of a dorsal fin moving through a shallow area in the water, against the current and toward the glacier's lake. This was a god thing- she knew what kind of fish this was, and that she could probably catch one without too much effort. It was a salmon, fighting against the current.
She hardly lifted herself from her crouch but moved downriver a bit, watching to see if the salmon was just one of many moving up the current toward the lake. Another disturbance on the water's surface announced that she was right- this might possibly be a part of a salmon run- she she could very well strike gold, as salmon were large and nutritious. She slipped forward, up to her knees in the water, waiting and watching for one to come close enough in the shallows for her to corner and catch it.
